Consider a world where all pots and pans are nonstick. This would most likely benefit your morning eggs, and you would undoubtedly spend less time cleaning. But would you wake up at night wondering, `At what cost? `
That is the central question, a new company specialising in a small selection of aceramic-coated nonstick cookware. And the literal cost for a complete set of four pans is around $400. A significant investment, to be sure, but ideally in line with other mid-to-high-end pots and pans - and, when considering the price, remember that products have the added benefit of always being photoshoot-ready.
Historically, cookware has not been visually appealing. Caraway, a new-ish direct-to-consumer cookware brand, is working to change that by offering pots and pans in beautiful colours and silhouettes. Its cookware is so beautiful that you`ve probably seen it all over Instagram — in ads or your friends` posts.
Since its debut in the fall of 2019, it has made a name for itself with its trendy colours and modern lines, as well as its tagline, `Non-Toxic Cookware Made Modern. ` It claims to provide better cookware for users and the environment by coating pots and pans in ceramic enamel rather than Teflon to achieve a nonstick surface.
What Comes with Cookware?
Their Cookware Set offers the best value for money. It includes a 10.5-inch fry pan, 3-quart saucepan with lid, 4.5-quart sauté pan with lid, 6.5-quart Dutch oven with lid, and convenient storage for $395 (a $495 value) (a magnetic pan rack and canvas lid holder.) The fry pan is ideal for eggs, pancakes, and quickly reheating leftovers. The sauté pan, on the other hand, will be a coveted Jack-of-all-trades on your stovetop, capable of tackling everything from family-sized risottos to perfectly-seared seafood. Fans of one-pot meals will appreciate the lightweight-yet-durable Dutch oven. What about the saucepan? It heats a can of soup instantly, making it ideal for sauces, grains, and your kids` favourite foods.
The colourways are also worth noting: their website offers cream, navy, sage, grey, terracotta, marigold, and a limited edition brick red. Crate & Barrel also carries the cookware set with gold hardware in four exclusive colours (shown above): silt green, rose quartz, cream and gold, and sapphire.
What Material Is the Cookware Made Of?
The cookware is made of smooth ceramic-coated aluminium. The mineral-based finish claims to keep toxins out of your food while emitting 60% less CO2 than other nonstick pans on the market. Some ceramic pans are avoided because they are not as nonstick as traditional Teflon, but you may fund it to be a good bet for slick pancake and egg flips. Furthermore, the ceramic coating can withstand higher temperatures than the average nonstick coating. These pots and pans can be baked at temperatures as high as 550 degrees F, which is about as high as most standard ovens will go.
What is the cooking method?
Their even and efficient heating will quickly sauté vegetables, fry eggs, and braise pork butt without much oil or butter. Every pot and pan is oven safe up to 550 degrees F; however, the brand recommends cooking on the stovetop on low to medium heat and using soft wooden, silicone, plastic, or nylon utensils. Overheating and the use of rough-edged spatulas/turners can both wear away the nonstick coating, reducing the life of your cookware.
The comfortable stainless steel handles are a perfect weight, making it easy to handle any pot or pan. Furthermore, each one has a handy knob for your index finger that acts as a `danger zone` gauge to keep pesky burns at bay. When it comes to cleaning, a gentle scrub with soap and water is all required. A word of caution: Using the dishwasher will shorten the lifespan of your cookware, so people recommend handwashing whenever possible.
How to Keep Your Set
One of the best features of their set is the unique modular pan rack and lid holder. The Canvas Lid Holder works best on a wall or cabinet with no middle shelf (the company recommends the under-sink cabinet.) Magnetic Pan Racks are ideal for the horizontal organisation in pull-out cabinets or as a drying station on your countertop.
Who Should Invest in Cookware?
Many home cooks will appreciate their cookware set. Caraway`s versatility, colourful design, and clever organisation will appeal to eco-conscious families, newlyweds looking for a cookware overhaul, and first-time home buyers (or renters!) looking to add a fresh pop of colour to their kitchen. It`s no surprise that their products are in high demand and frequently sold out. If you see a set in the colour you want, folks strongly advise you to buy it right away. It`ll likely sell out again soon.
Final words
Caraway`s Cookware Set is an excellent choice if you want pans with an exceptionally nonstick surface and an attractive appearance. The pots and pans were a joy to cook with, and I will continue to use them long after this review is finished.
These pans are a pleasure to use because
they are lightweight, responsive to temperature changes, truly nonstick,
compatible with induction, gas, and electric cooktops, oven-safe to 650
degrees, and they look and heat evenly.
